Road closure blocks access to Asessippi Park facilities

SAVED, the regional economic group, denounces the Department of Conservation for slow repairs to the main access road to Asessippi Provincial Park closed since July. The delay cuts off the boat launch from campground and pavilion, risking visitor turnout estimated around 35,000 annually as the lake gains fame as a top walleye fishery. Reeve Alvin Zimmer notes repairs may not occur until next year and urges temporary fixes to restore access and protect tourism. SAVED is a coalition of seven municipalities including Binscorth, Russell, Roblin, Shell River, Shellmouth-Boulton, and Silver Creek, rooted in agriculture with growing tourism potential.
