Province extends municipal and school board terms stirred local backlash
Winnipeg area officials react to June legislation extending municipal council terms to four years and school board terms to four years. Councillor Vern Rosnoski condemns the change as a long commitment and argues it may deter qualified candidates. Merrill Kiliwnik and Frieze weigh long tenure against learning curves, while Walt Roberts supports the move for cost savings and candidate screening. School board trustees express mixed views with concerns over work load and by elections, though Dianna Rae supports extended terms for planning and turnout.
