Wheat Board Advisory Report Forecasts Record Producer Deliveries
The Wheat Board Advisory Committee met on August 15 1978 with ten members and three commissioners present. Producers are expected to post a record delivery total as the extended season ends, while flax and rape quotas were not extended due to act provisions. Exports are still poised near the 1972-73 record. transportation remains a bottleneck with Churchill strike disruptions and car shortages. A motion urged Otto Lang to push for a settlement, and discussions covered moving grain faster, annual car purchases, and potential shifts in transport allocations if demand outpaces supply. The world crop conditions are at least average, barley prices were debated, and a meeting with the Eastern Livestock Feed Board was proposed. The quota committee was named with Dobson Lea as chair, involving Mike Martin, G. Bradley, and Bob Moffatt. Bill Strath of Souris was declared the first candidate for District Two in the upcoming advisory elections. Next meeting set for September 25.

The Canadian Wheat Board told Prairie farmers that a deferred delivery permit will only be granted if the delivery point elevators lack space by July 31 to finish 1977-78 quotas. Applications close August 30 with permits expiring September 16, 1978, and eligibility requires elevator congestion preventing quota filling.
