The Elks Lodge sponsor a novel act next Tuesday August 20 at the Agricultural Grounds featuring Gene Holter from Jamestown North Dakota with 18 trained donkeys and a zebra show. Weather Damage Report Reeled In Across District

A stormy night caused considerable damage through the district with gardens suffering most and late grains hit. It is too early to estimate the full extent of the damage.

Highway Check At Saskatchewan Border Details Traffic

For three days August 18 19 and 20 a border check on No 4 highway recorded 389 cars carrying 1156 passengers crossing into Saskatchewan. Also Jim Waddell fishing at Silver Beach landed two uncommon species a maskinonge and a pickerel during his holiday from Dominion City.

Big league batting averages outpaced by local stars

Jack Scobie of Holar led the district with a 540 batting average, followed by Tom Plumb of Binsearth at .508. The Wildwood Country Club prize for top league batter will be awarded to Scobie Sunday as Holar meets Kamsack in a double header at the Club grounds.

Girls Band Visits Russell for Lunch Stop on West Tour

About eighty members of the International Girls' Band arrived by special buses to Russell for a Wednesday noon lunch crowd on Main Street. No concert was scheduled here. Last Thursday an army recruiting unit was in Russell and three local youths enlisted. The names were ill Wasslen, Bert Hebron and Johnny Klusa.
