Russell considers civic centre as town trades land
Russell town council moved toward a civic administration centre by exchanging 11 west of Bill Hodgson’s Yellowhead Buildall with nine east Main St lots held by Hodgson. The nine houses New Era Plumbing and Heating and a lumber yard occupy now will be moved or razed for a new building west of Main St. Mayor Langford cited Mobberly’s retail study recommending replacing the town hall with a civic building. The town may own the multi storey and lease space to tenants, including offices, a community hall, federal and provincial offices, and a county court. Negotiations followed discussion of the Mobberly report and the August 13 meeting releasing details to spur public interest.
