Simcoe and the birth of Upper Canada’s government

In 1791 Parliament created Upper and Lower Canada and Colonel John Graves Simcoe became lieutenant governor. He arrived in Quebec, moved to Kingston for ceremonies on July 18 1792, and established Navy Hall near Niagara on the Lake as capital. The first Upper Canada Parliament met in 1792 at Freemason's Hall, not Navy Hall, with the Law Society forming in 1797.

Requiem for a Character Milton Quandry Remembered

An uncle reminisces about Milton Quandry a self made farmer near Coyote Crossing. Though lacking formal schooling he built wealth and stubbornly clung to horses over tractors. His humor sharpens tales of electricity money and a life woven with kin and prairie grit.

Milt, the independent man, ends his days at Coyote Crossing

The narrator recalls Milt, a tough former horse drover who faced a Chrysler showroom insult with a punch and a battered pride. He spent years driving horses to town, retired to Coyote Crossing, and lived as a rugged character ahead of his time. The piece ends with a wry note on fashion and weather in a small town.
