Brown wins Reform candidacy in Dauphin-Swan River count�

Russell's Dale Brown defeated Mike Sortowski and others to win the Reform Party nomination for Dauphin Swan River. About 300 supporters, totaling 1400 in the constituency, attended the Russell and District Community Centre to hear speeches. Brown emphasized rural communities, depopulation and economic decline, pledging action to protect farms, lights, schools and services with Reform leader Preston Manning as guest speaker.

Farmland values dip across Canada in 1991 late half

FCC research shows national farmland values fell 2 percent from July 1, 1991 to January 1, 1992 marking the third decline in 18 months. Ontario and the Prairies saw drops while Quebec and British Columbia posted gains and Atlantic values were flat. Urban demand remains a key upward force.
