Floor care products are divided into two categories solvent base and water base. Solvent base polishes are recommended for wood and cork floors and may be used on resilient flooring such as linoleum and vinyl but not asphalt or rubber tile. A solvent base polish contains a solvent usually naphtha which dissipates wax and fine steel wool risk. Excess wax can be removed with a liquid solvent base wax and steel wool tool though this is extra work. Water base products use water as the carrier for wax particles to provide shine and film, used on resilient and hard floors but not wood or cork. Removal frequency depends on coats, duration, cleaning between polishes, and traffic. Removal can be done with wax stripper or a dilution of liquid ammonia, floor cleaner, and cool water. Odor identifies solvent base products. More floor care info in a new pamphlet in the office.
