The Inland Revenue Department's Bulletin No. 68 analyzes 156 baking powder samples from Dominion dealers and manufacturers. 85 percent contain alum. Chief Analyst Macfarlane proposes legal action against sellers of alum powders as unhealthful foods and urges clear contents labeling. McGill adds that alum powders harm digestion and should be prohibited.
