PUB cuts Manitoba Hydro interim rate to 3.36 percent
The Public Utilities Board rejected Manitoba Hydro’s 7.9 percent interim rate hike and approved a 3.36 percent increase effective Aug. 1. The Crown utility plans to return in December to seek the full 7.9 percent hike over four years as it faces rising debt from Keeyask and Bipole III, plus higher financing costs. CEO Kelvin Shepherd says stronger rates are needed to fund operations and modernize infrastructure while reducing costs and preserving service.
