Pelly Trail School Division Broad Meeting Highlights
The Pelly Trail School Board met on June 12 and 26 with July meetings by the Transportation and Finance Committee. The department did not fund industrial arts and home economics grants, but a contract with the Department of Indian Affairs covers Indian student transport and project materials. IA and HE equipment costs are partly funded by IA, and a plan seeks full equipment funding via the Public Schools Finance Board. The board approved grants for renovations at Central School and arranged new storage for the Rossburn Agricultural Society display building. Tenders for old school demolitions and landscaping were awarded, with provincial grant coverage confirmed. The board also noted resignations, transfers, and prize recognitions for students in art contests and reported progress on the Major Pratt School remedial program and kindergarten entry policy changes.

Opting Out of Wealth and Fame Motivates a Music Star
Canadian songwriter Gene MacLellan, famed for Snowbird, is quitting due to wealth and pressure. He will relinquish his company interests, donate royalties to support young performers, and travel with his wife. The piece contrasts his choice with others seeking simpler lives, including a Bahai follower and a Montreal route to spiritual aims, noting the tension between material success and personal ideals.
