Canola Plant In Harrowby Cuts Jobs Amid Slump
Twenty workers at CSP Foods Ltd Harrowby received lay off notices last Friday for an indefinite period. Plant manager Stuart Braun cites slow Canadian crude oil market and strong Canadian dollar reducing U S canola demand as reasons. The layoff could extend to May 25th through June 1st with possible further cuts as the sector faces a broader shutdown trend in Alberta plants. Canada’s government moved to study the industry with a March 19 committee announcement led by Charlie Mayer, aiming to advise short and long term marketing and policy changes.
