Russell Businesses Rally for Communities in Bloom Plan
The Communities in Bloom Committee surveys Russell Main Street firms about upcoming competition plans as colors expand to reds yellows whites and blues. A July judging tour of yards and gardens is planned along with a new information pamphlet for businesses and homeowners detailing spring clean up dirt day planting day and other details. Lions Club activity in Russell supports community needs
The Russel Lions Club stays busy with community support and member requests. They review Manitoba liquor law changes and how they affect service at the Community Hall, back the Communities in Bloom effort with baskets and a new garden on Main Street, celebrate a successful Cross Country Ski Derby, and note Elks Lions Curlorama as a highlight. Additional talks on palliative care, Scouting and Guiding, and funding for camping gear, plus financial help to local 4 H clubs, are mentioned along with plans to aid a student with glasses.
