Obituary of Mrs Ruby Needham of Russell 190?–1978
Mrs Ruby Needham died February 28 1978 at Russell Hospital after a long illness. Born and raised in Russell she lived there all her life. She married Walter Needham in 1988, who preceded her in 1963. Survived by sister Mildred Brown of New Westminster B C and brothers Earl Setter of Toronto and Melvin Setter of Victoria B C. A charter member of the Order of the Eastern Star she twice served as Worthy Matron of Russell Grand Adair in 1932 Grand Marshal in 1934 and Grand Esther in 1487 and long served as lang Representative of Virginia in Manitoba. In 1934 she represented the Order at a General Grand Chapter assembly in Tampa Florida as Miss Canada. For 64 years she belonged to the Crystal Rebekah Lodge of Russell and held many offices including Noble Grand. She was past president of Ladies Auxiliary to the Army and Navy Veterans Branch No 159 and was on the Executive of the new Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion formed in 1945. Rev E McIntyre officiated at the funeral March 3 1978 at Knox United Church where she had been a lifelong member. Pallbearers included A Beelaert F Poole A Liske R McMurray K Reavie and T Yankoski of the Canadian Legion. Members of the Ladies Auxiliary to the Legion the Order of the Eastern Star and the Crystal Rebekah Lodge attended and served lunch after the interment in Russell Cemetery.
