Rossburn Chamber of Commerce Meeting Minutes 1956

The Rossburn Chamber of Commerce held its September 17 1956 meeting at 8 p.m. in the Legion Hall with President N Major presiding. Minutes were read and approved. A $15 cheque to Manitoba Chambers of Commerce was authorized for the 1956 57 fiscal year. The Resolutions Committee was expanded to include C H Langridge and H McKnight. J D Andrew and O Elvers were tasked to approach the town council about stop signs street signs and erecting new signs. Members are urged to attend to address important matters under discussion.

Mission Workers Mark Anniversary

Rev and Mrs Harry Crump, longtime Presbyterian missionaries among Manitoba Indians, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary after about 34 years of service. Crump, born 1880 in Coventry, England, began church work in 1901 and moved to Canada, joining the Presbyterian church in 1923 and dedicating most of his life to mission work in Manitoba.

Von Hagen-Goode Sept wedding in Worthing ends with hospital delay

Joy Goode of 14 Christ Church Road Worthing wed Dale Brian Von Hagen a Canadian airman after Joy's mother was rushed to hospital for an operation. The ceremony at Christ Church was followed by an Embassy Restaurant reception. The couple met at sea 18 months earlier and plan to live in France near Marville after honeymoon. Canadian best man Ralph Roosen attended.

Village Council Meeting in Rossburn Forms New Fire Chief

The Rossburn village council met on Tuesday September 18 with all councillors present. Minutes read and adopted, financial statement approved. Constable's report showed 45 dollars in fines for the past month. Mike Smyeniuk resigned as fire chief. Mike Antonin appointed in his place. Mr J Sherritt urged better resident cooperation for proper garbage piling before pickup. Two building permit applications approved. one Old Age Assistance application tabled. By law covering nominations and elections passed.

Clarence Carson 45 of 27 St Thomas Rd St Vital died suddenly Friday in St Boniface Hospital He was revenue clerk then chief clerk in Winnipeg treasury and assistant to treasurer since 1956 Survived by wife Anne Margaret two children Carolyn and Richard his mother two brothers a sister and other relatives He was active in Masonic circles and secretary of Three Pillars Masonic Lodge St Vital.
