Krossburn Rural Council Meeting Seeks Budget and By Laws

The Rural Municipality of Rossburn council met September 13 1960 with Reeve M J Sotas and Councillors Brown Hyra Pawluk Baubie present. They adopted the August financial report and approved payments including $40 for office cleaning and varnish, plus arbitrators costs for several school districts. By law No 847 dissolving Perch district and transferring land was read and passed, and By law No 850 on nominations and elections was also passed. The meeting adjourned to October 11 1960 at 9:00 am.

Road Work Near Town On Main North South Route

Construction begins this week to reconstruct the village portion of the main north south road starting at the bank corner. The project aims to connect toward the park and Grandview, with Birtle municipality now within one mile of finishing their section.

Funeral Rites for John Storczuk Held in Oakburn

John H. Storczuk 72 died suddenly at his Oakburn home on September 5. Funeral services were held September 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church Leech with burial in Seech Greek Orthodox Cemetery. Rev Wasyl Melnychuk led the service. Pallbearers included George Hrebiniuk Ituna Mike Citulski Oakburn Steve Citulski Winnipeg Philip Hubert Oakburn Mike A Citulski Oakburn and Steve Starczuk Sandy Lake. He was born in Western Ukraine and came to Canada in 1900, farming in Seech before moving to Oakburn. Survived by his wife Teenie four sons Harry Oakburn Louis Shoal Lake Tony Seech and John Toronto three daughters Mrs Joe Prior Ann Hydraulic BC Mrs Ernie McCaulley Helen Victoria BC and Mrs Mike Myslawchuk Emily Winnipeg along with 15 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Rae's Funeral Home Shoal Lake arranged service logistics.

A Rossburn Game and Fish Association meeting was held at Maron Slo w's Garage on Friday September 9 with eight members present. Cecil Gunn moved minutes be read and adopted. various motions covered swimming classes with Red Cross, no refunds on swimming fees, tent rates of 1.00 for first night and 2.00 per week, and payment of Marshall Wells and Beaver Lumber Co. accounts plus Mrs Klym's board. Adjournment followed.

Gapka births a daughter weighing seven pounds eight ounces at Birtle Hospital on September 14. Mrs Casey Genovey and son Jerry visited her father Mr Skavinski in Stenen, Sask, who is moving to a new home in Kamsack.

Tender awards aid paving on Manitoba routes

Tenders opened August 9 for four treated timber pile bridges on PTH 21 between Shoal Lake and Oakburn. J. S. Quinn Construction Company Ltd won the contract with the lowest bid of 13461 dollars. Gravelling the Baldur Belmont 13 1/2 mile stretch of PTH 23 will cost 34320 dollars, the lowest bid by Wilfred Chegwin among four bids.
