Aerial spraying ends but danger lingers in Manitoba
Manitoba ended its aerial spraying program to curb western equine encephalitis on August 26, but a continuing health emergency remains. About 200,000 litres of Baygon were used over 1,257,000 acres in 21 population centres. Four human cases, all recovered, and 106 confirmed horse cases with 22 horse deaths were reported. Officials say a 90 percent kill of Culex tarsalis was achieved, but some mosquitoes escaped and precautions must continue.
