Housing Minister Jerry Storie unveils a $1 million short term program creating jobs in about 75 rural communities. Intensive maintenance and upgrades will occur in MHRC housing projects including painting fencing insulation concrete work and storage sheds. Flying farmers attempt Frost relief with crop-drying flight
Two Manitoba farmers Larry Huston and Barry Mackedenski hired pilot Cameron Flett to fly above crops near Angusville on August 27 to raise ground temperatures. At 5 30 A M ground level reached 18 F while 25 feet up it was 38 F. Results unclear as frost damage spreads, hitting late crops hardest. Farmers resumed swathing and combining by the weekend, accepting the loss as farm life in Manitoba continues.

Final Bingo concludes Parkland Harvest Festival with Nellie Lazaruk wins
The Parkland Harvest Festival featured a final Bingo game where Nellie Lazaruk won the $1,000 top prize. The festival included a large parade with winners for Best Dressed Horse Best Dressed Bike Best Non Commercial and Best Commercial floats, as well as a Rodeo Queen contest won by Cindy Stebeleski with Wendy Taylor and Rhonda Goletz as princesses. Raffle prizes went to Nelson Daneluk Norbert Tanner and Jim Herchak.
