The Rossburn Grassland Demonstration site near Rossburn features 26 acre plots sown to grasses and legumes. Trials began in 1976 with low moisture causing poor germination. reseeding occurred in spring 1977 with Harmon oats and 40 lb acre seed rate. A total of 71 bales were produced from the 26 acres after cutting the oats for green feed.
The schedule lists games for Sunday September 4 with Team 1 facing Team 4 at 2 PM and Team 2 against Team 3 at 4 PM. A second pair of matches follows on September Nl with Team 1 vs Team 3 at 2 PM and Team 2 vs Team 4 at 4 PM.
Mr Michael Glushka celebrates his 92nd birthday on September 5 1977. The community honors a pioneer still among us and grateful for his lifetime of service and wisdom.
Evelyn Franklin of Edmonton renewed acquaintances in town last week. Mr and Mrs Ernie Brown of Madsen Ontario visited with Mr and Mrs C Brown and other relatives. Mr and Mrs Ernie Stefanik and Mark spent a week's holiday in Edmonton. Recent visitors included Mrs C Wilms Dave Calder of Brandon and Miss S Henteleff of Winnipeg. Mr and Mrs Ken Myers of Denver USA have left after a week with Mr and Mrs Bill Maxwell.
Cool damp conditions hinder harvesting with rain not heavy but temperatures not warm enough to dry grain for combining. August rated among the coolest dullest on record, prompting hopes for improved weather with the new month.
Rick Plaisier former Rossburn Lions Club president named Zone Chairman of Region 4. He attended District 5M7 Cabinet in Kenora Ontario with wife Marie. District Governor is Lion Marcino, formerly of Erickson Manitoba.
The Rossburn Recreation Commission plans to buy an Ice Scraper and flooder for the skating arena at about 3500 dollars. The machine will scrape and flood the ice when mounted on a tractor and is not an artificial ice plant. Donations are sought from individuals and organizations with weekly progress updates listing contributors.
The Lions Club Jackpot Bingo winners list from Wednesday August 31 includes multiple ties. Notable names include Evelyn Mohr, Brenda Katchin, Perry Longclaws, Steve Maydaniuk, Helen Sidlar, and Nora Le doux among others.
A tomato weighing 2 pounds 2 ounces was grown in Rossburn by Mr. and Mrs. Matt Maianiuk. The item highlights local produce from their garden in this community notice.
Parkland Harvest Festival featured gymkhana and rodeo events with Horse Show trophies donated by Rossburn Festivals Inc. Candy Bergeson won the High Point Trophy for the M.G.R.A. classes. Winners span Brandon, Rossburn, Roblin, Minnedosa, Esther and Winnipeg, with numerous divisions including Showmanship, Western Pleasure, Reining, Barrel Racing, Pole Bending, and Musical Chairs.
