Rossburn council approves furnace loan and youth centre upgrades

The Village of Rossburn held its October 17 1972 meeting with Mayor Louis Kurchaba and four councillors present. Motions include approving a $3000 over‑expenditure for a town hall electric furnace, adopting September reports, arranging snow fence repairs, and passing Scavenging and Garbage System By‑law No 462. A youth committee delegation sought improvements to the youth centre with 1973 heating and flooring funded. Bills totaling 10 085.32 were approved for payment.

Brownies and Girl Guides Organized in Local Meeting

A meeting at Rossburn Rotary School on Oct 23 organized the Brownie Pack and the Girl Guide Company. Weekly meetings set for Wednesday at 7 p.m. Leaders include Mrs. W. McCrossin, Mrs. DB. Martin, Miss Mary Helton, and Miss Carol Lewis. A Group Committee was formed with Mrs. Ken Cameron as district commissioner and several officers for sec.treas., uniforms, publicity, and badge secretary.

Rossburn Circle Eights Start Season With Dances

The Rossburn Circle Eights held their first square dance of the season on October 13 and a second on October 20, with about 21 people each night. New faces joined, under the direction of Tom Warburton and his wife Linda, who were praised for their leadership. Congratulations to the Warburtons on the birth of their baby boy.

UNICEF Campaign On Hallowe'en Night At Rossburn Junior High

The Rossburn Junior High Student Council will run a UNICEF campaign on Hallowe'en night asking for a few cents to aid overseas children. About forty students will escort one younger child to each door, and parents may request helpers by phoning the school.

Doug Joiner Captures Ross Burn Club Championship Title

Golf champion Doug Joiner won the Ross Burn Men's Golf Club 1972 Championship after a final 9 hole round on Saturday October 21. He defeated Otto Elvers by five holes to two with two holes tied in the late match.

Ugandan Doctor Welcomed to Oak River by MP

Craig Stewart MP for Marquette welcomed Dr. Virani Nizarani to Oak River on Friday October 20. Stewart helped secure an emigrating Ugandan doctor through Ottawa Immigration to serve Erickson and Rossburn areas, with plans to obtain a dentist and pharmacist for the communities.

September meeting of Silver Creek RM discusses revisions and taxes

The Rural Municipality of Silver Creek held its September meeting and Court of Revision for assessments. Three appeals were heard, with many requests for school tax reductions to be reviewed by the Assessment Commission. Other actions include bills totaling $41,520.06, setting December 14 for a tax sale, transferring a roadway to William Boychuk, predator control application by aircraft, and trailer license fees set at 7.50 per month. Reeve Katchin and Ralph Tibbatts were chosen to attend the Manitoba Good Roads Association meeting to accept the Cameron Trophy. The board approved completing Lakeshore Drive to give cottage owners direct beach access and noted nuisance grounds for travel without extra mileage. Next meeting is November 14 at 1 p.m.
