Russell and surrounding communities unite to ask the province to reconsider the proposed closing of the court office. The office allows citizens to file small claims appear before a magistrate and receive help with forms. If closed the nearest offices would be in Minnedosa and more distant centers.
In Rossburn Virden and nearby areas including Russell Bin/scarth Waywayseecappo First Nation and Silver Creek municipalities ask Manitoba Justice to reverse a decision to close the Russell office. MLA Len Derkach lobbied to save the office citing prior reversal. Justice says Russell was the least used and the administrator retired. annual savings would be 57000 if closed.
