Five candidates filed for the Village of Rossburn Council election on October 26. Incumbent Caldwell is joined by Calvin Brown Kenneth Caldwell Robert Hunter Shirley Kalynnik and Edward Kreshewski on the ballot after nominations closed October 5. Alice Hryciuk withdrew within the 48 hour grace period. Mayor Louis Kurchaba and several rural area incumbents were also named in local results.
Nominations for school trustee in Wards 1 3 5 7 and 9 were received by Returning Officer Edward Bartram on Wednesday October 5. Wards 5 and 7 will elect due to two nominations each. Contestants include Nydia Kostuik vs John L Mazur in Ward 5 Angu sville and Leonard M Goletz vs Lynda J Ryshytyle in Ward 7 Rossburn East. Returning trustees are Ward 1 Inglis Larry Liske and Ward 3 Binscarth Garnet Cochrane. No nominations were received for Ward 9 Elphinstone.
Canada Post will not introduce planned rate rises next year and will review the decision quarterly through 1984. CPC President R. Michael Warren says the move fits a shift to a customer driven business philosophy amid market uncertainty and rising private sector competition. The Turnaround Program aims to keep service improvements while pushing price competitiveness.
The Centennial Committee met October 5 at 8 PM in the Municipal Office with 18 members. New business created a budget committee and a fund raising committee with members Pat Monroe Diane Lawless Marie Elke Ron Kostesky Shirley Kalyniuk Barbara Kostesky Stella Didych Pete Malchuk. Lions rep Ken Lillie discussed a community calendar fund raising project. a Rossburn aerial photo calendar was approved at 4.00 dollars with 2 free entries, 50 cents per entry for service clubs. Calendar to include birthdays anniversaries club meetings and events. Lions will canvass the community. The cookbook should be ready by end of November and the Centennial will cater the Pool supper on November 14. Anne Slon moved and Stella Didych seconded. Larry Elke adjourned. Centenary year starts in 11 weeks. next meeting October 19 in Rossburn Town Hall at 8 PM.
