OAS and GIS payouts rise with cost of living in Ottawa
Federal Old Age Security pensions Guaranteed Income Supplement and Spouse's Allowance will increase in October to match inflation. OAS rises to 282.94 monthly for Oct to Dec GIS single up to 336.26, married 219.00 per spouse. Spouse's Allowance for eligible 60 to 64 year olds increases to 501.94 and extended to 554.16. New rule allows 60 to 64 year old widows and widowers to receive the Spouse's Allowance if they meet residence requirements.

Manitoba Agriculture Minister Bill Uruski announced a $27,000 grant under the Agri-Food agreement to establish five custom soil sampling services. Feed program expansion covers all Manitoba municipalities in 1986
Manitoba Agriculture announced expansion of the Feed Security Program to all municipalities in 1986. Agreement in principle with the federal government will share development costs up to 500000 dollars. The plan offers producer insurance for fodder when yields drop below 70 percent of the long-term municipal average, with 50 percent premium from farmers and 50 percent from the federal government.
