The Lions Club hosts a Santa Claus parade on Saturday December 9 at 1 30 PM with clowns elves floats and carolers. After touring the business district Santa visits the Town Hall for treats while parents shop and children enjoy a festive afternoon in town.
The Village of Rossburn council met in the council chambers with Mayor J G Stitt and councillors P Wiladyka wag Aylwin Mike E Antonin and Harry Drosdoski present. Minutes were read and approved financial report for October 31 1961 adopted. Constables report adopted. Stitt reappointed to Rossburn Medical Nursing Unit Board for full term. Aylwin reappointed to Birtle Shoal Lake Health Unit Advisory Board. Building permit applications for Chomica Zemianski Palmer Sherritt approved. Meeting adjourned to December 4 1961 at 8 pm.
Rossburn Creamery captured multiple prizes at major fairs this summer. It earned 1st and 2nd place awards for salted and unsalted butter prints, top scores at the C N E Toronto, and notable placements at the Royal Fair in Toronto.
Moorehead Minnesota official George Fisseman attended the Rossburn Lions Club gathering on Tuesday. His address on Lionism was well received and plans were discussed to sponsor minor hockey and a Santa Claus parade, with a December 7 meeting to follow.
December 1961 schedule lists annual meetings in Rossburn on the 3rd 10th 19th and 31st with services at 10 a.m. including Ruthenia Mears Otha and Rossburn locations. Rev. J Lehky conducts services and meetings on specified dates with 2:30 p.m. session in Rossburn noted.
The Rossburn Ladies Curling Club opened the season with a pot luck supper for 23 on November 6 at the Curling Rink. Officers elected include President Ethel Langridge and Vice President Lorna Veitch. secretary-treasurer Ann Drosdoski. draw, social, and prize committees named. The second meeting on November 24 arranged rinks and skips, and a New Year’s Dance with Bob Corley’s Orchestra was set for December 29, with posters to follow.
Mrs C V Gunn spent the week end in Winnipeg attending an MTS meeting. Mrs Pete Raginski with daughter Mrs Harvey Raven and grandson Lance visited Toronto to see their daughter and son in law Mr and Mrs Lorne Ledoux and family.
The Vista Women’s Institute records a year of community service and learning. Activities included a Christmas party Career Night for students library reading programs noodles and hair care demonstrations travelogues and social events. Members donated to charities and sent care to ill residents. Nettie Hursak served as President Florence MacPhail as Secretary.
The Birtle Shoal Lake Health Unit Executive Advisory Board met October 18 with six members present. A new member, Mrs. D Payne, replaces resigning R McMurray. Roblin rent for Well Baby Clinics discussed. April minutes cite fixed rent of 5 per session monthly. November 15 meeting also held with six members present. Roblin to raise rent from January 1962. new Baby Clinic location sought. Roblin plumbing inspector Art Curray appointed. Public Health Inspector W Keryluk no longer inspects Roblin.
