Career day showcases native role models at Waywayseecappo
Education counsellor Karen Gambey organized a career day on Oct. 28 at the Waywayseecappo Reserve north of Rossburn. Students listed interests in social work, animal health, sports, aviation, law enforcement and law, with native representatives emphasized. Brenda McKague of Assiniboine Community College spoke on education and opportunities at ACC, while University of Manitoba speakers were canceled due to weather. The event drew a positive student response and strong interest in future career planning.

Native role models spur high school completion drive
In November 1988 on a reserve, native students attended a day focusing on vocational options. The aim was to inspire by native role models and broaden career choices to motivate students to finish high school. The reserve school ends at grade nine, with further studies at Major Pratt Collegiate in Russell. Popular presentations featured Marty Blackbird of the Rossburn RCMP and Joe Mercredis on the computer industry.

Weather system brings snow to southern Manitoba
A complex weather system developing in Wyoming is expected to bring up to three centimeters of snow to southern Manitoba Monday night through Tuesday and into Wednesday. Thursday remains mainly cloudy with a high near minus three, and Friday carries a 50 percent chance of flurries.

Speed limit may be increased in Manitoba hearings
The Highway Traffic Board will hold three hearings in mid-December to consider raising speed limits on Provincial Trunk Highways in the area. A potential increase from 90 km/h to 100 km/h could apply to P.T.E. Nos. 10 21 23 41 and 42 and other highways province wide. See Increase on page 8.
