Rossburn council prepares to assume control of the Manitoba Water Services Board plant next year. An inspection shows roof replacement and an auxiliary pump needed, with the Board covering half of costs. After takeover the town will handle all future costs while water rates remain unchanged.
Keeseekowenia Technological Institute opens at the Keeseekowen in Ojibway First Nation offering a two year program in business software and entrepreneurial skills to youth ages 15 to 30. The project aims to provide self employment options within the reserve and will include short term seminars and an open access Internet site for the 600-member community.
Four people have been hired to clean up the Rossburn Subdivision Trail with support from Manitoba Education and Training. Memberships through the Rossburn Subdivision Trail Association office include a pin card certificate and newsletter, plus upcoming t shirts and sweatshirts. Volunteers welcome to aid the Trans Canada Trail link between west and east Manitoba. Lauren Wadelius, Trail Co ordinator, can be reached at 859 3064.
Janice Zemliak daughter of Mike and Olia Zemliak of Oakburn wins a $1 scholarship from Rosemary Vodrey Minister for Status of Women for an essay on her career plans. She previously earned a $350 Rural Development award for tuition and tied for a June prize in the Western Producer’s 7th Anniversary Essay Contest. She is enrolled in a two year Rural Development course at Assiniboine Community College.
