Successful Fowl Supper Draws Crowd Despite Weather

Major Decision Features Rural Council Meeting
The council passed a resolution asking the Department of Public Works to approve a main market road north of sections 7 to 12 and 19 25. Rossburn Municipality joins the Rossburn Chamber of Commerce. No snowplowing will occur this winter. A request was made to plow the road into Vista Townsite by government machinery. Bills were paid. Some members may attend the Union of Manitoba Municipalities convention later this month. The council adjourned to meet on December 8.

Snowplowing Ban Adopted by Rossburn Council
At the November 2 3 1956 meeting the council of the BR M of Rossburn unanimously agreed no snowplowing with municipal machinery this winter until spring avoiding financial or physical strain. The patrol operating deficit ties to past snowplowing costs and warranty issues on a new TDI8A crawler tractor used under adverse conditions. The council moves to discontinue all snow plowing and directs residents to private contractors.

Review of W I Year’s Activities in Rossburn
Eleven meetings with 29 paid up members and average attendance of 13. Money making included a rummage sale, lunch service at events, a quilt raffle, and church/market lunches. Benevolent work covered rent for a local family, May of Dimes tag days raising 49.74 and 63.50, blinds fundraiser 57.58, scholarship donation 10, and curtains for the church. Also a traveling library, laws of interest talks, Seaway lecture, and reports from delegates. Social events included visits to nearby W I groups, a grandmother’s tea, and travel talks by Stitt and Hay with trips to Denver, Black Hills, Europe.

Rossburn Wisconsin Annual Meeting Adopts Officer Slate
The Rossburn WI annual meeting on December 6 at 3 p.m. drew 16 members and one visitor. Officers elected include President Mrs J G Stittist, Vice President Mrs T H Alexand, Sec Treas Mrs Langridge, Pianist Mrs W Armstrong, Program Convenor Mrs W Armstrong, and Reporter Mrs J Cormack. The year 1956 was reported successful with pictures shown of Manitoba delegates to the A C W W convention in Ceylon.

Sumk organizes first meeting at Rossburn
Sumk held its initial gathering on October 30 at the Ukrainian National Home in Rossburn with Rev J Brybalka of Oakburn serving as chairman. The year’s council was elected including President Alex Drul and Vice President Orest Pawchuk.

Funeral service for Mrs Grundy in Community Hall
Mrs L N Grundy formerly Violet Lillian Moon, who came to Canada in 1920 and lived in Rossburn district before moving to Onanole about ten days before her death, married L N Grundy on February 16 1920 in Worces hshire England. Pallbearers named were Wm Armstrong Peter Bilinski Bob Carson Rossburn Sam Calder Donald Searle and Wm Campbell Onanole.
