The Shoal Lake Lions Club sponsors the A C T Amateur contest in the Shoal Lake Ukrainian Hall on Saturday Nov 14 at 8 p m. Only four entries so far, with a hoped total of twenty by Monday Nov 9 to allow program printing in Brandon. Entries to Welland Stonehouse, Phone 18, Shoal Lake.
Oakburn residents travel plans headline a Winnipeg weekend outing as Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Antonation join Mr. and Mrs. Joe Antonation and Mr. Michael Luhowy. Mrs. Nick Zubrack returns from a two week holiday in Winnipeg with Prof. and Mrs. P. A. Kendra. Mrs. J. McLean of Clearwater visits Douglas and Mrs. Smith in town.
Vista 4-H Seed Club members attended the Shoal Lake district Achievement Day in Foxwarren Manitoba on October 22. Honored guests included Mr Stonehouse, Mr P Forde, and Mr Toothe. Forde and Toothe judged grain samples with Dean Hamilton first Gerald Brown second and Charlie Miller third for Vista. Foxwarren won best display. Toothe presented two films Battle for Bread and Science and the Farmer both noted as educational.
A memorial service will be held in the Rossburn Town Hall on Wednesday November 11 at 10 15 p m. All places of business will remain closed for the day.
Miss Alice Waytowich of Brandon spent Tuesday in town visiting her mother as part of a weekend gathering with friends and relatives.
Village constable and residents praise orderly Hallowe'en in Rossburn as children in costumes collected treats with no major damage. One overturned “parliament building” attributed to a school teacher was the only incident noted, otherwise the event went smoothly.
A Silverton square dance group won first prize at the October 30 Rossburn contest with six entries. Foxwarren took second, Angusville third. Judges included Mrs. J. Lindsay and Mr. Arthur Chesney. Proceeds totaling 86.20 benefited the cemetery fund, with additional 21.80 from a October 24 tag day.
The Student Council hosts a Silver Tea on Saturday at 7 30 p.m. Tickets cost 25 cents, proceeds support student activities. A planned Hard Time Party filled Rossburn Collegiate’s science room on October 29 with games led by Yvonne Carson and others, dancing, and a lunch.
An organizational meeting of the Rossburn Calf Club will be held at school on Friday November 13 at 8 p m New officers will be elected and slides from the July Shoal Lake 4 H Rally shown All members and parents urged to attend Messrs H T Huston W Stonehouse and John Mitchell will canvass the district on November 11 to recruit new members
