Peter Cheguis 49 dies after wrap of services in Manitoba

Peter Michael Cheguis of Birtle Manitoba died May 7 at Deer Lodge Hospital. Prayers were held at Zawidoski Funeral Chapel Winnipeg then at Sandy Lake Parish Hall with a funeral mass. He was born in Rossburn and farmed near Birtle thirty years. Survived by mother Martha, three sisters Ann Mike Florence Spak and Mary Todosiev, and four brothers John Paul Bill Harry.

Muzylowski Rites Mark 81 Year Life in Canada

Nykola Muzylowski died April 13 at Flin Flon General Hospital at 81. Born in Husiatyn in 1883, he moved to Canada 1912 and farmed in Gakburn before retirement. Survived by four sons, one daughter, a brother and sister in Ukraine, eleven grandchildren, and a wide circle of relatives. Interment at Oakburn Ukr Catholic Church.

Mr and Mrs Ted Stewart attended the commencement exercises of the Winnipeg General Hospital School of Nursing where their daughter Carol R N was a recent graduate. Miss Carol Stewart was honored at a dinner held last Saturday at Westminster Church.

Gerald Brown Shines At Brandon Music Festival

Gerald Brown, Camp Shilo teacher, won the Lieder class at the Brandon Music Festival held May 4 to 9 at Earl Oxford Auditorium. He scored 84 for Der Gartner and impressed adjudicator Catherine Wendel with rhythm and expression. He also earned top marks in Tenor Solo Senior and Oratorio Solo classes and conducted two Shilo School Choirs with praised teaching.

Rural Council Defers Action on Consolidation Plan

He urged immediate curriculum changes to handle rapid educational tech changes and outlined four possible Manitoba student paths including Vocational and Terminal Courses.

Raffle and Bingo conducted May 5 at Glen Elme Church basement. Winners included Quilt to Mrs Harry Konyk Table Lamp to Mrs Joe Senko Blanket to Mrs Peter Kuzenko and multiple $2.00 prizes for other staked drawings with winners such as Mrs Mike Piasta Mrs Peter Kuzenko and Mrs Bill Checkowsky. The event thanked attendees for making the bingo a success.
