Funeral Rites For Mr Wasyl Zosiak

The death of Mr Wasyl Zosiak, age 75 years, 1 month, 4 days, occurred Friday April 26 in St Boniface Hospital Winnipeg after a brief illness. Born in Ukraine on March 22 1832 he came to Canada in 1906, living in Cario and later Rossburn where he spent his last 17 years with his son Matt Zosiak. Funeral was held April 29 at 10 a.m. from Rossburn Ukrainian Catholic Church with burial in the Ukrainian Catholic cemetery. Pallbearers were Mike Zosiuk Orest Zosiuk Mike Manulak Steve Manulak Bill Manulak Mike Manulak. Rae's Funeral Home managed arrangements.

Regina couple wed in Trinity Lutheran Church ceremony

Miss Lorraine Elvera Huber and Kenneth Wylie Campbell were married May 4 1957 at 3 pm in Regina with Dr P A Hinrichs officiating. Bridesmaids were Jean McClellan and Darlin Huber. Best man Jim Reid of Edmonton. Reception for 150 at Oddfellows Hall followed by a three week honeymoon on the West Coast. The couple will reside at 504 Town Garden Regina.

Rossburn council met in the council chambers on May 4. Reeve Ed Shust and councillors Morley Brown William Hyra Mike Pawluk and Mike Baubie attended. Minutes and financial report were approved. A 10.00 Rossburn School Scholarship grant was approved. Tender from Andy Onofriechuk Inglis was accepted. Road lease through W1 of Sec 2 20 25 W1 for 1957 season approved. Roy Halowski hired as second road operator. Highways Branch patrol rental sought for Vista townsite main road. Bills approved. Adjourned to June 1 1957 at 1 pm.

Local and church figures attend Dauphin chamber meeting

Local official Mike Smycniuk with Norman Major Wilson Stitt and two Angusville delegates attended the Chamber of Commerce gathering in Dauphin last Thursday. Three-year theological students from United College were touring western Manitoba towns this week promoting United College. Harold Boyd and Phyllis Murdock spent Friday in Rossburn, while Harold Alston was in Rossburn on Saturday en route to Neerawa and Minnedosa where he spoke on Sunday.

Mr and Mrs Ted Bartram and others motored to Brandon last Saturday while Turnbull children stayed with Grandma Frett. Birthday wishes go out to many local residents including Dr Johnson and Jimmie Turnbull. The Young Women’s Club hosts a bake sale and silver tea at Angusville United Church, with proceeds for the Manse fund. Mrs Mandziuk Guest Speaker To Local W I. & Visitors

Rossburn The W I meeting was held Tuesday afternoon in the Church Annex with institutes from Elphinstone Vista and Birdtail. Forty two visitors and members attended. The group announced a new library book shipment available for borrowing at Mrs J Stitt’s home. They purchased twelve baby vests for the hospital nursery and donated $10 to the High School Scholarship Fund. A quilt will be raffled soon. Mrs Mandziuk of Oakburn spoke on Ukrainian handiwork with samples. Musical items and contests closed the programme with lunch.

Funeral Rites for Michael Hirak Held at Oakburn

Michael Hirak, 69, died after a four month illness at Shoal Lake Hospital. Born 1887, he was a retired CNR section foreman and is survived by wife Rose, daughters Frances and Margaret, and grandchildren Valerie and Randy. Funeral conducted by Rev. Rybalka at the Greek Orthodox Church in Oakburn at 1 p.m. on May 4. Pallbearers named. Oakburn Funeral Home assisted.

4-H Calf Club Meeting At Rossburn School

A 4-H Calf Club meeting occurred at Rossburn School on May 3 with Mr. Forbes in attendance giving a brief talk on 4-H activities. A judging contest is planned at Mr Huston’s toward the end of the week.

A meeting will be held in Bryan School on May 28 at 8 30 to discuss Consolidated School with Mr Labossiere as guest speaker. All ratepayers are asked to attend.

Vista Women’s Institute May Meeting Held at Mrs Woycheshin

The Vista Women’s Institute held its May meeting at Mrs Walter Woycheshin’s home with all members present. Discussion covered the Dugald Fashion Show and the decision not to sponsor it. A delegate for Ingii was selected. The meeting closed with lunch served. the June meeting will be at Mrs Frank Shewchuk’s home.

School Hi-Lites A Successful Silver Tea Event

A silver tea Saturday night featured tasteful table decor with pussy willows and daffodils. Volunteers including Mrs Huston Miss Hay Mrs Gunn Mrs Murphy Vivian Cleland Peggy Hamilton Lydia Trakalos served tea while the student council thanked volunteers for loans and support. Murray Cormack spoke on University Life and the Agriculture program highlighting scholarships and farm career paths. Shirley Bart suffered a leg fracture but is expected to recover. films were shown Friday and a Graduation Dance is planned for May 17 with the Langenburg Merry Makers.
