Manitoba to issue single licence plates to save funds
Manitoba will switch to single licence plates this fall to cut costs by 210000 dollars annually, with a further 1600000 dollars saved when plates are reissued. The plan, announced by Highways Minister John Plohman during estimates hearings, aims to direct funds to priority projects and follows similar practice in Quebec and Prince Edward Island. Single plates for passenger vehicles begin by September 1987, with a small category of single Public Service Vehicle plates issued in July 1987.

Jump Rope For Heart funded by Wayway students
Waywayseecappo Community School students raised 542 dollars for the Manitoba Heart Foundation during a April 22 event in the school gym. One hundred eighty students in grades 1 to 9 took part in a three hour program organized by Scarlett Alex Cusitar and Doug Hedley. The grade 4 class led with 126 dollars, and all but ten percent of proceeds go to the Heart Foundation while the remainder funds the student council for field trips.

Final Concert Caps Four Part Rossburn Arts Series
The Rossburn and District Arts Council wrapped a four part children concert series on May 2 co sponsored by the Dept of Culture Heritage and Recreation. The council promotes local arts with exhibitions and a juried western Manitoba show in June and offers sponsorships for students and an adult to attend the Manitoba Festival of the Arts in Neepawa. A logo drawing contest with 25 prize and an Appreciation Night on May 29 at 7 30 PM at the Rossburn Town Hall concludes the week long efforts inviting community participation and support.

Manitoba 4-H Public Speaking Final in Brandon May 9
The Manitoba 4 H Intermediate Public Speaking Competition finals will be held Saturday May 9 at the Agricultural Extension Centre in Brandon. Sponsored by Radio Southern Manitoba the event features 12 finalists aged 12 to 14 from six regions. Finals begin at 11 00 A M with speakers delivering three to five minute talks on chosen topics.
