Manitoba enacts tough measures to enforce maintenance orders
Justice Minister Rosemary Vodrey introduced legislation expanding the Maintenance Enforcement program aimed at 20,000 Manitoba children and families. The act increases enforcement tools including license suspensions, credit bureau reporting, money seizure, and access to pension credits, while raising jail terms and fines for willful nonpayment. It also amends several acts and broadens garnishment powers, with measures already rolling out via direct debit and a secure drop box at 405 Broadway.
