Grief Workshops Planned for Rural Widows
Two two day grief workshops for rural widows titled New Perspectives will be held at the Winnipeg YWCA April 30 and May 1 and at Brandon YWCA May 8 and May 9. Registration forms and details are available from the Winnipeg and Brandon YWCA offices. The $25 fee covers both days and Janet L. Johnson of the Winnipeg YWCA Widows Consultation Centre leads the sessions. A companion Practical Guide for Widows is available for $5 by mail in Manitoba.

Roblin-Russell race narrows then shifts after tally
In Roblin Russell the Progressive Conservative Derkach initially appeared to lose to NDP Embryk by 31 votes. Final tallies show Derkach leading by 28 after correcting misattributed ballots. Liberal Gaber trailed. Official results due March 25 with potential recounts and remand centre ballots.

Shoal Lake Tests Show Oxygen Depleted Conditions
Department of Natural Resources tests on March 19 indicate Shoal Lake is oxygen depleted with the north end registering a “dead” reading while other lakes such as Arrow Silver Beach Dumm y Czernyj Horseshoe and Tokaryk show 3.0 to 5.6 ppm. Conservation Officer Ken Stewart notes weeds consume oxygen and that more tests will occur at the south end. Fish stocking is planned this spring with jackfish up to 6 pounds to be released to bolster the lake.
