Mrs J J Stitt of Rossburn celebrated her 88th birthday on March 18 with an open house. She thanks friends for calls and cards and many gifts and flowers. She remains hale and hearty and enjoys life to the full, with wishes for continued health and happiness.
Mrs James Armstrong died March 21 1955 at Brandon General Hospital. Born Rossburn November 28 1885 she lived there all her life. Survived by husband three daughters Gladys Graves Margaret Stitt Muriel Gillespie and son Donald Bud plus eight grandchildren Zoe a daughter is deceased. Funeral at Rossburn United Church March 24 at 2 pm with interment in Rossburn Cemetery.
Six team intermediate hockey tournament set for Saturday March 26 at the local arena. First puck drop at 1 p m. Teams expected include Decker Isabella Foxwarren Shoal Lake Elphinstone and Rossburn.
District delegates met at Min nedosa on March 21 to discuss Manitoba Telephone System rate hikes Selkirk Wheat supplies and MFAC policy. Head office representatives led by Jack Wilton and Alice Sherman outlined provincial board topics including C F A convention and federal cabinet talks. The board agreed to survey wheat supply with Manitoba Pool Elevators and plan a possible MFAC Dist 3 convention at Crawford Park.
The RMRA committee met Monday with good attendance and passed motions. They approve a $27 800 first prize watch for carnival ticket sales and a $10 consolation prize watch for second place. A guard was assigned for April 18 at the door, and the rink will close by April 2. Tentative bingo dates are June 1 with June 8 as backup, and the prize committee will be Earl Moffat, ab Karmazenuk, and Norman.
A Sunday evening program at 8 p m in the Ukrainian National Home featured a Rossburn Ukrainian Choir with recitations by Alex Drul Myrna Smycniuk and Lorne Topolniski a mandolin orchestra led by Mrs F Chopp an accordion band under Mrs F Chopp and a children s operetta led by Mrs Mike Antonin The program closed with concluding remarks by Harry Boychuk and a final chorus by the choir
Alice Margaret Balchen and Evan Nelson Stitt exchanged vows at 2 30 PM on Saturday February 19 at Dauphin First United Church. Rev D G Ray officiated with music by Mrs I O Winters and soloist Miss Audrey Shore. The couple will reside in Dauphin after a trip to the U S A.
Mrs Lorne Hur sak of Vista won 1115 in cash and merchandise from the Time to Win program on CKY when her correct answer to the riddle Some of us had it before None of us want it again the low mood of the 30s was drawn at about 9 15 am Her phone stayed busy all day and thousands listened to the show with many hearing of Vista for the first time.
Final results from the Curling Club bonspiel show Saley rink taking first in Grand Challenge with Alex Saley top, followed by Alex Cleland. Merchants and Consolation events list Bill Silewich and Steve Pokrapany as winners respectively, with other top placers named.
A freak calf born Monday on the Alfred Mitchell farm possessed two heads three ears two backs and an extra jointed hind leg resembling the front quarter. The animal was born dead.
The Hospital Aid bonspiel raised 93.80 for the hospital with 28 rinks entering. Prize winners included CHOMICA rink with M Chomica first in CHALLENGE and N Strong, J Cormack, A Saley, A Cleland podium finishers in other events.
The school rink team of Nickie Kalyniuk Jack McKnight Delroy Stitt and Jack Maydaniuk placed second in a consolation oil prize. Professor Harris from Brandon College spoke on college life and entrance requirements. District inspector Mr Labassiere toured the high school. A Rossburn Scholarship Fund tag day is planned. St Patrick Day raised 7.70 for Junior Red Cross. Grade five and six art groups completed health chapters and group word pictures. High school girls lost 4-1 to Angusville.
