Pharmacare deductible set to rise in 1990
Health Minister Don Orchard announced a 4.8 percent increase in the Pharmacare deductible for 1990, tying it to the 12 month Winnipeg CPI. Deductibles for those 65 and over rise to 92.75 and under 65 to 163.65, with 80 percent coverage above the deductible.

Parkland Discusses Community Futures Meeting in Dauphin
More than sixty representatives from local development groups and Parkland councils met in Dauphin on March 7 to learn about the Community Futures program and its potential in the Parkland region. The gathering, organized by East and West Parkland Economic Development Steering Committees, replaces the former Parkland Regional Development Corporation with a community based approach. Each community will set its own priorities and strategies, using Community Futures to build on existing efforts.

Breathalyzer Van Demonstrates Rural Manitoba Use
RCMP introduced a self contained Breathalyzer Van in rural Manitoba with a Rossburn school stop. Cst Wally Ogeman Sgt Alex Graham and Cpl Ron Plump answered questions about on site testing and privacy. The van speeds up testing with legal limit set at 80 mg per 100 ml blood and six hour suspensions for 50 to 80 mg. The unit provides a secure phone room and an on board Alert reader to classify pass warn or fail outcomes.
