Manitoba's spring flood outlook lessens flood fears

Conservation Minister Os car Lathlin released Manitoba's first spring flood outlook. It says little to no flooding along rivers this spring given average to dry conditions in most areas. Soil moisture is average to below average but sub-soil moisture remains high in southwestern Manitoba and parts of the Red River watershed. Snow cover is well below average in southern Manitoba and nearby U S regions, with a Feb 25 26 storm bringing 20 to 40 millimetres of rain and minor runoff. Major flood control is unlikely, but heavy March snow and spring rain could raise run-off and cause some flows. The River Forecast Centre will monitor conditions, with an updated outlook later this month if needed.
