Annual Ice Carnival draws crowds despite poor weather

Rossburn held its annual Ice Carnival over Friday and Saturday March 12 and 13 with about 450 spectators each day. Saturday featured poor conditions with water on the ice while Friday showcased a colorful figure skating show by the Rossburn Figure Skating Club and performances by Brandon guests.

Rossburn 14U Triumphs 4-2 At Inglis

Rossburn 14U hockey team defeated Inglis 4-2 Friday evening. Scorers included Brian Brandon Tim Cloud and Roger Mentuck with two goals. Mentuck contributed half the Rossburn tally as the visitors earned the win on the road.

March of Dimes Campaign Results Reported

In the recent Rossburn W I campaign, $53.40 was collected for the March of Dimes, reflecting local effort and support for the national fundraiser.

Birdtail W I meeting plans tea bake sale funds

Birdtail W I members met at Mrs. Alice Hrubeniuk's home with eight members and one visitor. They read the Creed, wore green, reviewed minutes and treasurer's report, and discussed a Silver Tea and Bake Sale with Rossburn W I for the District Convention. A Whist Drive at Mrs. Murray Kalyniuk's raised funds for Birdtail ward at Rossburn Hospital. The jackpot went to Mrs. Mary Saley. The meeting closed with an Irish song and lunch.

Webb Bus Lines sights timetable change for Winnipeg service

The Review reports a planned timetable change by Webb Bus Lines. Regular Winnipeg departures would shift to morning around 7 30 a m and arrivals from Winnipeg would occur in late evening around 11 p m. The proposal goes before the Public Utility Board for approval this week.

Agricultural Society Annual Meeting in Rossburn

The Rossburn Agricultural Society met in the Municipal Office on Monday evening March 15 with fourteen members present. Minutes were adopted, and the 1970 financials showed receipts 2729.40 expenses 2542.14 leaving a 187.26 surplus. A merger with the Parkland Harvest Festival committee was discussed, with dates proposed for the festival on July 31 weekend or August 14. Live stock classes will be discontinued next year. Officers elected: President L. C. Johnston, Secretary Treasurer Mrs Elmer Brown, 1st Vice President John Mitchell, 2nd Vice President Bob Stitt. Delegates Ed Shust, John Mitchell and Hugh Armstrong to meet with Pelly Trail SD. Pauline Joiner named auditor. Meeting adjourned.

Cross Cultural Inservice at Rossburn Theme of Indian Culture in a White Society

A two day inservice in Rossburn February 25 26 co sponsored by Pelly Trail School Division and Western Regional Inservice Education Committee drew about 150 educators and community members. Experts including Bruce Sealey Vivian Kirkness Mary Morris Ahab Spence Jim Wright Ted Revel and Chief Dan George led sessions on Indian culture language issues social integration and home communication. The program urged teachers to understand linguistic differences and cultural backgrounds to integrate cultures rather than force assimilation, with further coverage on page 5.

Angusville Flyers Win Provincial D Championship in Final

The Angusville Flyers defeated Oakville 10 to 4 at home on Friday March 12 to clinch the M.A.H.A. Intermediate D title, becoming the second team to win the John Foxton trophy. Key scorers included Wowk, Martin, Siwak, Rodeck, and Kalynuk as Angusville swept the series.
