Inglis Farmer Is Man Barley Champ

WINNIPEG The national barley championship of 1956 goes to Alberta for the fourth year in a row. The new national champion Art Sauter of Crossfield won on a clone decision over another Alberta grower, Richard Stevenson. Clairmont, runner-up for first place, displaced Manitoba from both interprovincial prizes. Manitoba champion Robert Jackson of Inglis won $200 for first in his province plus $100 for region. Second and third provincial awards of $150 and $100 went to William D. Fisher of Russell and William Sonnenberg of Inglis. Regional winners in Manitoba include Region A and B listings with multiple names. A special prize of $50 was awarded to Carl Gulak of Inglis for handling the provincial champion’s carload entry.

Rossburn Bantams Blank Russell 11-0 in Aces Showdown

Rossburn Bantams overwhelmed Russell Bantam Club with an 11-0 victory Saturday afternoon. Rossburn built a 7-0 lead in the first period, added one in the second and three more in the third as local fans cheered the decisive win.

Rossburn Pee Wees Bounce Vista In Open Air Match

On March 6 at the Vista open air rink the Rossburn Pee Wees defeated Vista. Vista scored first but Rossburns locals struck with three goals in the second and third period by Ronnie Pradhnuk Bruce Kowal and Lee VonHagen.

Oakburn Ice Carnival crowns 1957 queen in lively pageant

A large Oakburn crowd attended Thursday March 7 ice carnival events. Miss Helen Prosak was crowned Ice Carnival Queen with Princes Olga Migas and Sonia Postmituck in attendance. The program featured costume judging, fancy skating, and a high school versus businessmen hockey game, won 7-6 by the High School team.

Mrs J J Stitt Celebrates 90th Birthday This March

The Review congratulates Mrs J J Stitt on turning 90 on March 18 and notes she is enjoying fairly good health. The newspaper wishes her many more happy birthdays and continued well being.

Soldiers receive training certificates in Winnipeg

In Winnipeg on March 7, Major General W. J. Megill presented certificates to 115 young men who trained as soldiers. They had been civilians two months earlier and now return to civilian life with a poised bearing and readiness to serve national defence. Listed are recipients from Rossburn Ptes H E Clearsky and W W Cooke, Erickson Pte S V English, Polonia Pte L Levandowski, Onanole Pte L L Reid.

Hospital Notes Rossburn February patient care and donations

Thirty seven patients were treated in hospital during February and eight operations occurred. A long list of individuals and groups are thanked for donations. A new sewing machine was added for hospital mending committees. A weekly hospital activity note will begin. Polio vaccination for ages six months to school age will occur this spring with signed permissions required. Caution urged during epidemics and sniffle days. Thanks to Mrs S Brown for a chicken donation.

Ukrainian Women's Organization Holds March Meeting

The Ukrainian Women's Organization met Monday night March 4 at Mrs. Dors Verbowski’s home with 18 members present. Mrs. Verbowski won the jackpot. cushions were raffled to aid the Hospital sewing machine fund. A bingo is planned for April 12 at the Ukrainian National Home and an outside speaker is to be invited to entertain the W.I. of Rossburn.

School Notes highlights and Irish humor at local school

The school notes sympathy for Mrs. Gunn after her mother’s death at Arborfield. Mr. Gunn attends the funeral. Mrs. Veitch substitutes in grades three and four. A one o’clock Friday candy sale for the Red Cross. Irish records, autograph albums, a potential censorship note on rhymes, and the bonspiel start. Easter exams loom. a new duplicating machine will print papers with Student Council funding half the cost. An Irish joke ends the column.

Pokropany Rink Tops Bonspiel

ROSSBURN The local men s curling club held a knockout bonspiel during the past week with finals Monday evening. In the winners event Steve Prokropany defeated Bill Silewich s rink in the final. In the lover s event J Lindsay defeated the Laverne Clubley rink.
