Kinks Enter K Rossburn Bonspiel

Play commenced Sunday afternoon and by Friday the eights will have been reached in the two open events. Finals are expected to be completed Monday.

Neepawa residents Mr and Mrs S Brown spent days with Ray and Melvile Brown. Winnpeg area visitors include Mr and Mrs F Shewchuk with daughter at P Belinsky. Brandon visits by Mr W Chegwin and Mrs W J Hamilton. Shoal Lake’s Darlene Dyck stayed with A Besinski. Hamiota’s Margaret Young and Esterhazy’s Bob English visited B Young. Two ladies rinks curled in Rossburn Bonspiel with results. Three rinks from here compete in Rossburn Men’s Spiel.

Chalet Opening Delayed by Storm in Dauphin

Orest Smycuik announces a postponement of the Official Opening for a few days due to a storm. The Chalet-Sportsman’s Lounge Beehive will open with Hon. R. G. Smellie cutting the ribbon and dignitaries delivering messages. CKDM Dauphin will broadcast the ceremony sponsored by local businesses.

Local and General and Pool Elevator Trophy Update

Mr and Mrs N Karmazenuk motor to Winnipeg with Mrs Bert Frieze and Clarence for a short trip from Friday to Monday. Best wishes to Crest and Joyce Smycnick on their occasion. The Rossburn Pool Elevator trophy was won in the recent Collegiate Bonspiel by Ronnie Taylors rink.

Rossburn Womens Institute Meeting at Mrs McIntosh Home

Rossburn Womens Institute met at Mrs McIntosh home on March 1 at 3 pm. Creed opened the meeting, business was conducted, and a visiting former member Mrs McKnight now in Winnipeg attended. Alice reviewed Dag Hammarskjold diary and his 1961 air crash death. Lunch by Mrs Radford and Ruby Armstrong. Jackpot won by Mrs McKnight. Next meeting at Mrs Cormack home on April 5 at 3 pm. Meeting closed with Mizpah Benediction.

Bingo Winners Reward Crowd at Wednesday Jackpot Night

A large Wednesday Night Jackpot Bingo crowd awarded multiple winners led by Jack L. Zegalski with four dollars and Mrs. Frank Zegalski with four dollars. Other winners included Matt Olynyk four dollars and Mrs. Mike Verbowski fifteen dollars, plus several players at four dollars and a few tied prizes of fifteen dollars.

World Day of Prayer Service at Rossburn Church

The Vista United Church Women attended the World Day of Prayer service at Rossburn United Church on Friday February 25 1966 with participants from Angusville Argyle Vista and Rossburn. Guest speaker Mrs Ethel Brown past president of the Vista U C W delivered an inspiring address on the theme Ye are my witnesses and my servant whom I have chosen urging Christians to bear fruit and be witnesses.

Rossburn girls edge Elphinstone to reach finals

Sonia Belinsky sparked a 20-17 Rossburn win over Elphinstone in a tight finish, earning a spot in the finals against Russell. Russell’s Bruce Ray and Larry Savaryn led their semifinal rout 71-30 as the B team pressed hard with Dwain Lawless and Foster Armstrong standout efforts for M P C despite a 30-25 loss to R C L.

Coming Events Bingo Jackpot at Rossburn Town Hall

A charity bingo night at Rossburn Town Hall Basement on Wednesday March 9 features a $210 jackpot. Twelve games pay $4, two games pay $15, lap cards 75 cents, extra card 1, and a Surprise Package Game. Consolation Block-out $25 begins at 8 p.m.

Centennial Project Approved for Rossburn Fishing Lake Resort

Approval by the Centennial Corporation grants a centennial fund for Rossburn Rural Municipality project M-137 to improve Fishing Lake Resort. Officials promise community participation and further project details will follow.

Shower honors Miss Jean Armstrong bride elect

A February 16 shower in the United Church annex celebrated Miss Jean Maxie Armstrong, bride elect for March 26. Hostesses Mrs Lizzie Cleland and Mrs Jean Cleland welcomed guests as Mary Seal gave a welcome address and presented gifts. Jean thanked the guests, then everyone sang For She's A Jolly Good Fellow. Lunch followed.

Ladies K Bonspiel Winners at Rossburn event

The Rossburn Ladies Bonspiel began January 24 with 13 rinks. In the 1st event Gwen Hoffman's rink won, Joan Baker's rink took 2nd, Avis Stitt's rink 3rd, May Lawless' rink 4th. Evelyn Creaver's rink led 2nd event, Gladys Hrysak's rink 2nd, Mrs A Moan's rink 3rd, Mrs Barbara Fink's rink 4th. Lois Melnyk's rink won the 3rd event, Wilkinson's rink 2nd, Miss Vivian Dahl's rink 3rd, Nettie Hrysak's rink 4th. Mrs Avis Stite's rink was first out of the bonspiel.

On March 12 the divisional curling bonspiel will feature many out of town rinks. A party held last Tuesday was successful and enjoyed by all. Our babysitting and chore boy services are concluded. we thank citizens who used our services.

Rossburn Lions Sponsor Queen Candidate Miss Barclay

Rossburn teaching staff member Miss Bette Barclay has consented to be the Rossburn Lions Club candidate in the Viking Valley Snow Festival Queen Contest. She will be judged for appearance and poise at a dance in Erickson Collegiate auditorium on March 4 with music by the Eternals of Winnipeg, and a talent show on March 7 at Ernie's Hall. Local Collegiate students will assist and Lions provide transportation. Miss Barclay hails from Souris and studied science and teacher training at Brandon College.
