Manitoba Home Care nurses seek first contract
Three hundred Home Care nurses under the Manitoba Health Continuing Care Program applied to the Manitoba Labour Board on June 13 for a first contract after mediation talks stalled. They seek wage parity and benefits matching other Home Care employees, noting no raise since October 1988. The latest offer, 3% retroactive and 1% later, is 12.5% below peers. Current starter wages: Licensed Practical Nurse 12.29 to 14.07 hourly. Registered Nurse 13.85 to 16.60 hourly.

Parkland Harvest Festival Saved by Community Effort
Rossburn's Parkland Harvest Festival will go on this year thanks to 11th hour action by local citizens and business people. The Rossburn Agricultural Society raffles races including quarterhorse thoroughbred appaloosa and Indian pony events plus chuckwagon chariot pony races. Street bingo cabaret and men’s fastball and mixed slo pitch tournaments are planned with a teen dance sponsored by the Rossburn Arts Council at the community hall over August 3 4 and 5.
