Shoal Lake invites all residents to a Centennial celebration on Saturday July 4 featuring a revived old fashioned Ukrainian wedding. The day promises festive entertainment for all ages and a return to traditional customs with costumes from the era.
The event features meals of favourite Ukrainian dishes and refreshments, with pony rides for children supervised by the 4-H Club. Opening ceremonies start at 2:00 P.M. at Ukrainian Hall, followed by street dancing until morning. Remember to circle Saturday July 4 on your calendar.
Oakburn reports Mr and Mrs Steve Lazaruk and family of St Catharines Ontario visiting relatives. Mr and Mrs Mike Michalyshyn spent Monday and Tuesday in Winnipeg on business. Serge Picard of Montreal flew to Winnipeg and is visiting his aunt Freda Medoe. Mr and Mrs James Drozda of Winnipeg visited relatives here. Mr Steve Lusky visited at the home of Mr and Mrs Mike Borodie. Mrs Ernie Maduke and Karen of Erickson spent a few days at Mrs Julia Kowals.
Mrs D McIntyre of Brookdale spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs Wm Stitt and visited district friends. Billy Miller of BC visited his mother before traveling east to see Mr and Mrs J Murphy. John Miller and spouse celebrate 38th wedding anniversary on June 22 with S Rockall and family among guests. Tom Stitt recovering in Rossburn Hospital. J Mackedenski and family spent the weekend in Winnipeg visiting Darlene. David and Mike Gregorash of Toronto visited their parents. Chegwin family visited W Chegwin over the weekend.

Louise Kwiatkowski of Strathclair was queen. Jerry Taylor and Debbi Richardson of Miniota were princesses. Awards covered Eaton's Home Economics gold watch winners Beth Campbell Kenton and Ed Leland Miniota for agriculture. Bake-off queen Cindy Seddon Hamiota. centerpiece queen Bonnie Stevenson Birtle. Home Economics demonstrations winners included Junior Champion Brenda Billaney Linda Stewart Birtle. reserve Leslie Angel Kathy Taylor Miniota. Agricultural Demonstration champions were Junior Champion Mary Dalton Kathy Kingston Selsgirth Horse Club. Junior Reserve Patrick Shhwaluk Ron Bucklaschuk Oakburn Garden. Senior Champion Wilma Hankin Elaine Webber Crandall Potato Garden Hunter Safety Club. Strathclair Beef Club Spring Burning won the display.
