Road Meeting in Valley Chooses Voting Method for Grant Road

A Valley ratepayers meeting on June 14 at Valley School debated three roads Cleland Valley and Boundary roads. A motion to vote first on Cleland and Valley roads passed 69 to 6, then Boundary versus Valley yielded 29 to 28 with 3 spoiled ballots. Reeve and Councillors urged prudent judgment after the vote. Back Seat Observer reports Montreal division of Bank of Montreal opens offices for RAF bases in Europe.

The Rossburn 4H Calf Club met on June 12 at Mr. Harris Huston's. They planned to attend Dunns Hereford Field Day on June 16. A farewell letter was read for McCausland and discussion covered the Farm Boys Camp at Brandon Fair. Robin Huston became secretary after Norman Mitchell's resignation. Mr. McCausland led the swine and market cattle judging class.

Rossburn Council June Meeting Transcript

The Rossburn Village Council met on Tuesday June 19 with Mayor Earl Moffat presiding and full council present. The financial and constable reports were adopted. Tenders for garbage removal were invited on a full round per month. Three building permits were approved. Gravel bids were received and Peter Melnyk's bid of 4.75 per five yard lead was accepted. Bills were approved and council adjourned to July 24 due to Fair Day.

A June 15 shower at the Catholic Parish Hall celebrated Louise Kreshwski ahead of her June 19 marriage. Carole Collins read the address. toasts and many gifts followed, with lunch served by the hostess and several helpers listed.

Mr and Mrs John Dufrat of Angusville celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise party on Sunday June 17 hosted by their children and spouses at Bert Dufrat home. Rev Cieply of Rossburn officiated. The gathering included 46 guests, 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.

Rossburn Consumers Co-op annual meeting held with hopeful reports

The Rossburn Consumers Co-op met in the town hall on Thursday evening June 14 with 65 attendees. Films The St. Lawrence Seaway and Africa's National Parks opened the program as debts were paid and dividends hoped for next year. Directors L C Johnston Ed Shust and Gordon Taylor were re elected. Total volume stayed above 70 000 while Federated Co op activity was summarized by John Lee Erickson. Lunch followed the meeting.

Shower honors Louise Luhowy bride elect

A Saturday June 9 gathering in Oakburn honored Miss Louise Luhowy, bride elect for June 23. Guests presented corsages, a decorated wagon carried gifts, and Louise spoke briefly thanking friends before a lunch was served. Also noted are weekend visits and travels of local residents to Winnipeg and Victoria, including Prof. and Mrs. P. A. Kendra and others.
