CPR Vice-President Meets Diesel Pioneer
In Montreal, N R Crump, VP of the Canadian Pacific Railway, met Dr George Vladimir Lomonosoff, the Russian engineer who designed and built the world’s first diesel electric locomotive. Crump pursued his Purdue thesis on internal combustion engines for railroads, aided by Lomonosoff’s early 1909 design notes and a 1923 locomotive example.

Manitoba reports May fatalities at 18, double April 9. Drownings machinery and home falls drive the rise. Five May home deaths result from falls burns and asphyxia. Through May 1952 total accident deaths match 1951’s pace with 107 non road fatalities and seventy accidents investigated by the Accident Prevention Branch.
