Village of Rossburn Council Holds Special Meeting
The Rossburn village council met June 2 with all members and Mayor Moffat present. Frank Nataros was appointed for the remainder of 1950 at $125 monthly following the resignation of the constable and utility man. A contract was awarded to Wm Obedniak to haul 200 yards of gravel at $1.50 per yard for gravelling the main street, contractor paying gravel at the pit. Any person stealing earth from village streets, lanes or public property will be prosecuted. Adjournment set for June 20, 1950 at 8 pm for the regular meeting.

Grants Aid Bethel Hospital Winkler and New Rossburn Facility
The federal government approved over $13,000 in grants to Bethel Hospital Winkler to expand accommodation and fund a new Rossburn hospital. Work began before the plan's announcement, so Winkler receives a partial grant and Rossburn gains space for 10 beds a four bassinets nursery and general and obstetrical care. Provincial and private funds cover the rest. The Bethel project serves about 8 000 people in 324 square miles and the Rossburn site will serve about 3 500. Reads Association Opens 42nd Season Booklet
The Reads Assoc. issues a season booklet detailing competitions for best kept municipal roads and beautification efforts. It features illustrations of cups and shields to be awarded for Road Maintenance and Beautification of Towns and Villages, plus examples of winter roadkeeping and road construction projects. The 1950 prizes are cups and shields.
R.V.O. Field Day Winners Announced
The Rossburn RVO Field Day on June 1 featured separate town and rural schedules. Town results crowned Rossburn first in the parade with Oakburn and Vista following. overall Trophy scores listed Oakburn leading in town and Harrower in rural. Individual crests went to multiple Oakburn, Vista, and Ruthenia competitors across age groups and events.

Lost Rites For First War Veteran
Funeral service for John Truman Bolton of Rossburn Manitoba who died in Brandon on June 1 was held June 3 at Fraser's chapel. Reverend W O Nugent officiated with Canadian Legion members at the graveside in Brandon cemetery. Trumpeter Bert Sheen sounded the last post. Pallbearers were legion members H Philip A E Day O E Wagner W Mann T Andrews and George Little. Survived by parents Mr and Mrs George Bolton and two sisters Mrs Alfreda MacNeill and Mrs Eva Rossong.
