Rossburn council approves grants and road route change

Rural Municipality of Rossburn held a June meeting with all members present. Grants totaling 10.00 monthly municipal aid and two disability allowances were approved. Grading tenders and bridge rebuild bids were opened, with Peter Melnyk and Michael Derkach accepted. Ratepayers petitioned to alter the East West grant road route. engineer approval pending. Bills paid. adjournment to July 2.

Cemetery Committee Plans June 16 Clean Up Day

The Cemetery Committee announces a community clean up on Thursday June 16 after two rainouts. Volunteers are asked to repair stone bases and replant stones where possible, with remaining tasks focused on grounds upkeep. Acknowledgments are given to many lot caretakers, noting no financial support from the town and urging owners to maintain their plots.

VISTA NEWS SUMMARY OF EVENTS AND VISITS

Apologies issued for a prior error as the Vista United Church hosts a June 12 communion service at 10 30 a m led by Rev Zwicker of Russell. Visitors include Mr and Mrs George Armstrong from Flin Flon and Mr and Mrs Ronald Hay with Kevin of Winnipeg. A married men versus single men friendly ball game is planned June 10 with tea to follow. Vista shone at the Shoal Lake Fish Derby and local residents Mrs Art Chesney and W A delegate attend the Brandon presbyterial. Marlene Hamilton returns to Winnipeg after visiting relatives. Jack Halliday of Shilo spent the weekend in the district.

Birdtail W I held a monthly meeting at Mrs. R Veitch's home. David Joiner returns to Portage la Prairie to resume elevator work. Rubeniuk and John Semaniuk drove to Canora Sask. Mrs A Joiner went to Winnipeg last Thursday. Mrs McIntosh returned home with her. Ruth Plante of Winnipeg visited for the weekend. Calvin Brown injured his leg Sunday. A missing district hat was found but was the wrong one. reward remains. Mr James F Fitz of Winnipeg visited at the Veitch home.

Queen's Day Ball Tournament Draw at Rossburn

Nineteen top western Manitoba and eastern Saskatchewan teams entered Rossburn for Queen's Day ball competition on Thursday June 9 despite a cool day. Entries include Holar Dauphin McConnell Roblin Gilbert Plains and Hamiota with strong midget club participation and a Large draw featuring Foxwarren Binscarth McConnell Rossburn Elphinstone Dauphin and others. Agricultural Society and sports committee met June 3 to plan events including Dominion Shows, a heavy wire fence, an invitation tournament, a dance committee, revived Binscarth Band, calf sale open to 4-H, and a potential opening by Hon. S Garson.

W A Meeting Held Friday At Mrs Aylwin Home

The W A met Friday at Mrs H Aylwins with 13 members. Roll call produced a facecloth and soap for the hospital. They will cater the Kilburn Cormack wedding on June 25. A committee was formed to arrange details. Pew and floor repainting began Monday in the church. Aisle carpet to be purchased. The group raised about 125 for catering the W IL convention on May 20. Jackpot won by Mrs Emma Elvers. Lunch was served by Mrs Helen Aylwin, Mrs Lorna Veitch, and Mrs Mae Simpson.

Delegation From Rossburn Attends Urban Conference

A Rossburn delegation joined the Manitoba Urban Association mid summer meeting. Mayor Earl Moffat traveled by car with councillors Wm Antonichuk Mike Smyecniuk Peter Wladyka and J I Huston. The group enjoyed a fishing trip and hosted former Rossburnites. Roads to the Flin Flon site were described as quite good. They departed Thursday morning and returned Sunday afternoon.

Graduation Held At Angusville High School

Angusville High School held a May 31 graduation starting at 8 30. Lorraine Ferguson gave the valedictory and Lawrence Luba offered a reply. Arthur Chaytor received the torch from Betty Pritchard as Alston of Rossburn urged further education. Grade eleven honorees included Linda Ashey Gerry Stefanishyn Arthur Chaytor and Marlene Sen Lawrence Luba. Grand March at 10 led to the graduation dance with ballroom lights and balloons. Grade ten girls served a delicious lunch.

Fire destroys Oakburn residence of Stebelskis

The home of Mr and Mrs John Stebelski located four and a half miles north of Oakburn burned on Friday May 27 neighbors and relatives extend their deepest sympathy to the Stebeleskis.
