Manitoba Highways and Government Services praises Ashton and volunteers in the Adopt a Highway program for maintaining roadsides. Groups adopt eight kilometer sections, clean twice yearly for two years, with training, safety gear, and supplies provided. Current participants include Kiwanis, Lions, churches, and schools.

Hike 2000 visits Rossburn on Trans Canada Trail leg
Seven hikers passed through Rossburn on July 20 to celebrate the longest trail and promote fitness. They stayed overnight with coffee and dessert, then received breakfast from the Lions Club before departing for Saskatchewan. The group included Billy Redden and several Didkowsky family members, along with participants from Nova Scotia and Germany.
