Anton Shurgot, 89, died July 8 at Shoal Lake Hospital. Funeral at R C Oakburn Farms Church on July 10 with Rev. Mendyka. burial in Oakburn Farms cemetery. Pallbearers included Joe Sitko and Nick Lasitta. Survived by daughter oe yom Ziemiansky and nine grandchildren. wife died in 1927. He was an Oakburn district pioneer who settled in Canada in 1900 after marrying in Austria.

Andrew Pachkowsky died at the hospital on July 6 at age 73. He came to Canada in 1910 and settled in Rossburn where he farmed until health prevented. Survived by nephew Sam Pachkowsky of Rossburn and brother Jerry of New York. Funeral held at the Greek Orthodox Church with Rev. Kulish officiating and burial in the local cemetery. Pallbearers named Mike Borowski Pete Raginski Bill Shermet a Joe Sidlar Orest Drul and Martin Lepischak.

Rossburn W A met Tuesday evening in the annex with eleven members amid rain. They approved minutes and treasurer reports, donated 26 dollars as free dinners to the Agricultural Society, and noted purchases of annex flooring a bed and paint for the manse. An annual church cleaning bee is set for Friday July 24 at 1 30, with a lunch to follow. Hostess prize went to Mrs McKnight.

Picnic Draws Big Crowd at Fish Lake Derby
The Russell and Rossburn Game and Fish Associations hosted a joint picnic and fish derby at Fish Lake on Sunday attracting about 165 cars and 44 entries. The Rossburn Rural Council held its regular monthly meeting on July 20 1959 with all members present. Items included appointing Terence Fowler as arbitrator on school district transfers, a $400 grant to Shoal Lake Hospital District, a request to take over a road as a provincial trunk highway, transfer approval of SW quarter 30-19-23 to Islay School District, and a plea to Manitoba Telephone System for urgent service in Pete's Lake. The council adjourned to August 11.

Rossburn United Church hosted the July 4 wedding of Pauline Malaniuk and Douglas A. Joiner at 2 30 PM. Rev Thomas Ferguson officiated the double ring ceremony. The bride wore a nylon tulle gown with lace and carried a white Bible and orchid. The groom’s brother acted as best man with two ushers. A reception followed in the church annex and the couple will reside in Rossburn.

A Ukrainian Catholic church wedding in Shoal Lake on June 27 united Ann Gerelus daughter of Mrs. Margaret Yarchuk and the late John Gerelus with Orest Matiowsky son of Mr. and Mrs. S Matiowsky Oakburn in a double ring ceremony. The Rev P Romanyshyn officiated with organist H Short and singer Elsie Shwaluk. The bride wore a nylon tulle and lace gown with a pearl headpiece and carried sweet heart roses. Attendants included maid of honor Marge Bomek and bridesmaids Ann Ewachewski Nadia Nahiriak. Best men were Joe Matiowsky Leonard Maliation and Andrew Matiowsky. Murray Matiowsky was ring bearer. A reception followed at the Ukrainian Hall Oakburn. out of town guests attended from Winnipeg Toronto Moose Jaw and other points. The couple will reside in Oakburn after a honeymoon trip.
