Granary Tax Exemption Extended One Year
Finance Minister Saul Cherniack announced a one year extension of the provincial sales tax exemption for ready built granaries and prefab components used solely for grain storage. The exemption now runs to July 31, 1973 with conditions including farm use certification and timely delivery. For other construction materials the farmer pays tax at purchase and seeks a refund later. During the 1971-72 year 342 refund applications totaling $4,891 were processed, compared with prior years. The policy aims to avoid tax gains from farmers adding storage for unsold grain.
