Six citizens constructed a clay oven to bake homemade bread and buns during the Rossburn Centennial Celebrations. The oven features six inch thick walls, a brick floor, a branch skeleton, and a clay straw mix that dries over two weeks with a final firing to bake treats.
Rossburn artist Diane Kluz painted a mural on Swintak's M M Store depicting a Rossburn pioneer scene with a farmyard and Birdtail Valley. The artwork adds a distinctive local landmark during recent weeks.
Primary Grades at Rossburn Elementary enjoyed Pioneer Days with a horse and trailer ride driven by Richard Belinsky and John Parabee, a Square Dance Jamboree led by Connie Lyman, and Bunny Hop dancing. Students lunched in pails, then competed in tug of war, three legged races, and egg races, earning ice cream cones and lemonade for a nickel.
Students from kindergarten to grade three dressed in pioneer era outfits with girls in long dresses and bonnets and boys in suspenders and hankies. Teachers, the student council, and the Centennial Committee organized the event ensuring a memorable day for all.
