Public school expansion proposals seek funding and space

A letter outlines Pelly Trail Division Board plans to ease overcrowding at Rossburn and Major Pratt Collegiate facilities by adding a 9 classroom unit at Rossburn and a 6 room addition at Russell. Costs total about 423,596 dollars with Indian Affairs credits of 107,659 dollars, leaving 316,000 dollars to be funded locally.

Rossburn Lions Club Sees $100 Donation to Minor Hockey

The Rossburn Lions Club met at the Rossburn Hotel with twenty Lions present. A $100 donation was approved to aid Minor Hockey, paid to the Village to cover ice time for the two teams. Plans were announced for a Valentines Dance on Feb 12 with Neepawa Variatones providing music. Ice Carnival committee also progressing. Next meeting set for Feb 4.

Rossburn boys beat Binscarth 45 33 with Johnnie Ryshytyle scoring 27. Swan River lost to Rossburn 93 39. Rossburn girls defeated Binscarth 34 20. Elphinstone boys edged Inglis 41 31.

Junior High Curling Victories Highlight Week

The Junior High curling season continued with two notable wins. Russell And rew’s rink dominated sheet 2 at 83 to 7 over Glenn Carson, while on sheet 1 Ron Major edged Milton Drosdoski 8 to 7 after an extra end. The group plans a Variety Concert with date pending, joins the March of Dimes drive, and grades 7 and 8 schedule a toboggan party for Friday January 22.

Russell Stars In AB League Win Over Rossburn Lions

Russell Elks outscored Rossburn Lions 11 9 at Rossburn Arena in AB League play. Russell led 4 3 after one period, 8 5 at the half, and 10 6 mid third before Rossburn surged with four goals late. Rossburn best scorers were Dwain Lawless 4, Brian Brown 2 and 1, Glenn Carson 2, Milton Drosdoski 1 and 1, while Russell's tally included Hickaway Loney and Kearns with 3 each.

Local rink fells at Binscarth bonspiel and zone playdowns

Doug Joiner led a rink including Bill Joiner Don Stitt and Harold Slow to 8 wins 4 losses at the Binscarth Ponspiel earning second prize in the Thomas Shield and third in the Curling Club Event. At Dauphin zone play-downs the same rink representing Rossburn lost both games to Bert Parker and Bob Wilson and exited.

Mrs Joan Lawless Passes Away at 90 in Vancouver

Former Rossburn resident Mrs. Joan Lawless died January 15 1965 at Kensington Private Hospital Vancouver B C at age 90. Private funeral held. She was predeceased by Lackie McKinnon 1925 and Thomas Lawless 1936 and by sons Jim 1928 and Hector 1964. Survived by daughter Mrs George Sinclair Rachael seven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. She is also survived by sons Lorne Vancouver Jack Brandon and Archie Churchill.

United Church Women Meet in Vista Doings

The Vista United Church Women met January 6 at Dick Baker’s home with eight members and two visitors from The Moral Spectrum. A Brazil study, annual reports, and ordering remnants were discussed. the next meeting is February 3 at Mrs. Wm. Stitt’s home with Joan Baker leading the devotional.
